Mahler by Bernstein

Ages: 18 + Years

This academic lecture course explores excerpts from Mahler's Symphonies, which display his imagination and creative intentions. Now, you may be wondering why Gustav Mahler? He was a composer many wanted to know more about due to his use of the symphony as his primary medium of expression. Why Leonard Bernstein? He had a long conductorial love affair with Mahler's own orchestra, The Vienna Philharmonic. This course will also explore the overlap between the two. One coincidence to remember is Mahler's last position was with the New York Philharmonic, which was Bernstein’s first position fifty years later!
