Join us for an afternoon with BSO musicians Sophie Wang, violin, Leonardo Vásquez Chacón, viola, and ANMS Faculty Kelly Knox, cello, who have prepared a captivating string trio performance. Enjoy pieces from Beethoven, Rebecca Clarke, and Leó Weiner during an evening out at ANMS.

About the Musicians:
Sophie Wang: A native of Irmo, South Carolina, violinist Sophie Wang joined the Boston Symphony Orchestra’s violin section in April 2022. She received her master's degree from New England Conservatory and her bachelor’s from the Schwob School of Music at Columbus State University, where she received the Woodruff Award. Wang has been featured as soloist with the New England Philharmonic, South Carolina Philharmonic, and Schwob School of Music Philharmonic. She was a Fellow of the Tanglewood Music Center and has participated in festivals such as the International Musicians Seminar, Prussia Cove; Taos School of Music; and Sarasota Music Festival. Her principal teachers have included Malcolm Lowe, Donald Weilerstein, Sergiu Schwartz, and William Terwilliger. In 2024, Wang became a Certified Personal Trainer.
Leonardo Vásquez Chacón: Boston-based violist Leonardo Vásquez is a dynamic musician and teacher who has performed across the U.S., South America, Europe, and Asia as a soloist, orchestral musician, and chamber recitalist. Most recently, Leonardo finished a two-year tenure with the Boston Symphony Orchestra as a Resident Fellow, performing with them at Symphony Hall, Tanglewood, Japan, and the greater Boston area.
Born and raised in Lima, Leonardo began his career with a solo performance with the National Symphony of Peru and a full scholarship at the Festival of Flanders in Ghent, Belgium. He earned his Masters and Bachelors degrees from Indiana University, studying under Ed Gazouleas, and served as co-principal as well as a featured soloist with The Orchestra Now at Bard College. A two-time Tanglewood Music Center Fellow, he has also held tenures with the Evansville Philharmonic and Owensboro Symphony.
Leonardo has worked extensively with members of the Juilliard, Pacifica, and Concord String Quartets. In 2017 his string quartet participated in an exchange program in Vienna at the Musik und Kunst Privatuniversität der Stadt Wien. Leonardo was a guest artist at Festival Internacional de Música de Cámara in Lima, Peru, as well as in MúsicaOcupa, in Quito, Ecuador.
Kelly Knox: Cellist Kelly Knox is known for her versatility as a performer and educator, with a deep commitment to forming connections through music. Kelly joined The Portland String Quartet in the summer of 2024, and has performed with the Rhode Island Philharmonic, the Portland Symphony Orchestra, and as co-principal cello with The Orchestra Now. She has appeared as a soloist on 98.7 WFMT - Chicago’s Classical Radio Station, and her recording and film credits feature an appearance in Bradley Cooper’s Oscar-nominated film Maestro and an orchestral project with viral singer-songwriter JVKE in collaboration with Microsoft.
Kelly has had the privilege of performing chamber recitals and orchestral concerts in Italy, China, Peru, across the United States, and in Ecuador, where she co-founded the international chamber music festival MúsicaOcupa. With over 16 years of teaching experience, Kelly has shared her love and knowledge of the cello through private lessons, group classes, and masterclasses to students ranging from age 5 to 70+. She completed her pedagogy training in violin and cello with Mimi Zweig, Susan Moses, and Helen Shively Ford at Indiana University’s prestigious String Academy, where she also served as Faculty Cello Instructor. Kelly holds a Performance Diploma and a Master’s Degree from Indiana University’s Jacobs School of Music, where she studied under Peter Stumpf. She earned an additional Master’s Degree from Bard College, and completed her Bachelor’s Degree at Roosevelt University's Chicago College of Performing Arts.
